What does it take to be a leader in today’s world? The Virtual Global Leadership Program: International Affairs in a Transforming World (March 13-16, 2025) gathered more than 50 young leaders (ages 18-35) from around the world for an interactive program that provided them with the tools and insights necessary to unlock their leadership potential and tackle the challenges of the future with purpose and vision.
“I’m truly grateful for this opportunity and for everything I’ve learned today. It’s not often that you get to have such a meaningful and insightful conversation, and I genuinely appreciate the time and effort you put into making this session so valuable. I’m leaving with a deeper understanding, and I can’t thank you enough for sharing your knowledge. It’s been a great experience, and I’m thankful for the chance to be part of it,” shared Manisha Shrestha, Delegate at the Virtual Global Leadership Program.
The program was designed in partnership with the UN-mandated University for Peace, Center for Executive Education, and it enabled the participants to:
- 🌍 Explore global issues & AI’s Impact with Dr. PL de Silva, Seton Hall University
- 🗺️ Hear from Global Citizen Co-Founder Michael Sheldrick how to move a small idea to huge impact
- 🏛 Gain insight into the real-world diplomacy of the UN at the Japanese Permanent Mission
- 🤝 Refine negotiation skills with Dr. Amr Abdalla, University for Peace
- 💪 Learn more about their strengths and how to use them for success with Dr. Lucas Welter, AFS & NYU Steinhardt
- 📢 Apply critical thinking, work in teams, step into new and exciting roles, research a global challenge, and craft arguments in a Global Debate under the guidance of Marina Kumskova, Senior UN Policy and Advocacy Adviser
- 😎 Share their talents, interests and curiosity by connecting and building bonds with each other around the world
“The most important thing for young leaders is to find their ethical compass. It will be with you your entire life and it will guide you through choices, decisions and challenges,” concluded AFS President & CEO, Daniel Obst as he encouraged the Delegates to pursue their leadership and impact goals.
